Are 'The Authorities Always Right'?

Education is a fundamental human right and children with special needs should not be discriminated, segregated or marginalized. This documentary tells the story of Nihal Armstrong, a boy with Cerebral Palsy whose misdiagnosed learning difficulties saw him spend some of his primary years within special needs education.

This film highlights what happens when the Local Education Authority gets it wrong. Exploring the experiences of a mother and her severely disabled son who had fought discrimination in the British education system. This work presents a damning critique of an education system that  has failed spectacularly in its mission to bring equality into education.

"He had to fight for the right to go to those schools, another child wouldn’t have had the same kind of fight and wouldn’t have had to make the same efforts and be tested in the same way in order to just go to the local school." (Dr. Anne Emerson)

I hope that someday all disabled children have equal rights, opportunities and access to the education that their non-disabled peers take for granted, with the same realistic goals and ambitions.

A must see film for all those who wish to know how the British education system is set up to fail those who are the most vulnerable in our society.
